Synthesis of type II collagen in vitro by embryonic chick neural retina tissue.

چکیده
Collagen produced by chick neural retina tissue in vitro has the properties of type II collagen. Isolated neural retina tissue from stage 29-32 chick embryos incorporated [14C]glycine and [3H]proline into collagen consisting of alpha1 chains and a higher molecular weight species. The peptides produced by cyanogen bromide digestion of the collagen are identical to those from authentic type II collagen from cartilage in charge properties, as determined by carboxymethyl-cellulose chromatography, and size distribution, as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-acrylamide gel electrophoresis.

Vitreous body collagen. Evidence for a dual origin from the neural retina and hyalocytes
Two different cells types have been shown to synthesize embryonic chick vitreous collagen (vitrosin) at different stages of development. Identification of vitrosin was established by labeling the embryos in ovo [3H]proline at stages 23 and 28 and separating the extracted vitreous collagen alpha-chains by carboxymethylcellulose chromatography. The labeled collagen consisted predominately of alph...
متن کاملImmunological and biochemical studies of collagen type transition during in vitro chondrogenesis of chick limb mesodermal cells
This work describes an approach to monitor chondrogenesis of stage-24 chick limb mesodermal cells in vitro by analyzing the onset of type II collagen synthesis with carboxymethyl-cellulose chromatography, immunofluorescence, and radioimmunoassay. This procedure allowed specific and quantitative determination of chondrocytes in the presence of fibroblasts and myoblasts, both of which synthesize ...
متن کاملalpha 1(Xx) collagen, a new member of the collagen subfamily, fibril-associated collagens with interrupted triple helices.
Chick cDNA clones for a new member of the FACIT (fibril-associated collagens with interrupted triple helices) subfamily have been isolated and sequenced. The collagen chain encoded by these cDNAs was assigned the next consecutive number, making it the alpha1(XX) collagen chain. Assignment of type XX collagen to the FACIT family was based on sequence similarities to types XII and XIV collagen. T...
متن کاملSynthesis of type III collagen by fibroblasts from the embryonic chick cornea
Synthesis of collagen types I, II, III, and IV in cells from the embryonic chick cornea was studied using specific antibodies and immunofluorescence. Synthesis of radioactively labeled collagen types I and III was followed by fluorographic detection of cyanogen bromide peptides on polyacrylamide slab gels and by carboxymethylcellulose chromatography followed by disc gel electrophoresis. Type II...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of Collagen and Non-collagen Protein during Development of the Chick Cornea
The relationship between the rates of increase of corneal protein fractions and incorporation of labeled precursors has been examined during embryonic and early posthatching development of the chick corneal stroma. Non-collagen protein increased gradually from 9 through 20 days of incubation. Collagen accumulated approximately logarithmically through the 19th day, the most rapid rate occurring ...
